About - Rashtiya Rozgar Mission
Introduction
The Government of India launched the Rashtiya Rozgar Mission (RRM) initiative to tackle the impact of COVID-19 on shramik (migrant) workers and employment in India. It is a rural, urban public works scheme which was launched on 20 June 2020 with an initial funding of ₹50,000 crore (US$7.0 billion). RRM aims to give permanent employment to 670,000 migrant workers, approximately two-thirds of the total migrant labourer force that has gone back to rural, urban areas and permanent job opportunities for urban and rural areas.The scheme covers 458 districts in all states of india, Odisha, Tamilnaidu, Kerala,Telangana, Assam, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra etc. The scheme is a joint effort by 15 different Ministries/Departments and covers 75 categories of works/ activities.
Objectives
The objectives of this to create job opportunities, with a resource envelop of Rs. 50,000 Crore are:
Provide livelihood opportunities to returning migrants and similarly affected rural, urban citizens
Saturate villages, cities with public infrastructure - Anganwadis, Panchayat Bhawans, Community Sanitary Complexes, MCD etc.
Set stage for enhancing longer term livelihood opportunities.
Coverage
The scheme covers 458 districts in all states of india, Odisha, Tamilnaidu, Kerala,Telangana, Assam, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra etc, have been chosen for the campaign which includes 72 Aspirational Districts. These districts are estimated to cover about 2/3 of such migrant workers.
Duration of the scheme
Rashtiya Rozgar Mission (RRM) will be operational for a period of 125 days for below poverty and permanent job opportunities for cities all over india, commencing from 20th June, 2020.
Intended Beneficiaries
Returnee migrant workers and similarly affected rural, urban population of all States namely Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Rajasthan, Odisha, Tamilnaidu, Kerala,Telangana, Assam, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra etc.
Focus on 25 Works and other Profession
Abhiyaan involves intensified and focused implementation of 25+ target driven works to provide employments and create infrastructure in the rural, urban areas of 458 Project Districts with a resource envelope of Rs 50,000 crore.
